We are excited to announce the Nutcracker Suite Winter Intensive at The 92NY!

Join creators Michelle Dorrance, Hannah Heller, Josette Wiggan, and cast members of The Nutcracker Suite for an intensive that explores technical, artistic, and performance practices specific to this unique work. Train in the legacies of tap dance and vernacular jazz along with practices that deepen your embodied performance, stage presence, and character development inside the container of rhythm and movement, erasing the boundaries between technique and ensemble storytelling.

December 19-21 Beginner/Intermediate (Dancers 13+) & Intermediate/Advanced (Dancers 16+) tracks

Track Descriptions:

Beginner/Intermediate: a 3-day intensive for students 13+ who have been studying at an advanced beginner level or those who like to work at a slower pace. This track is for tap dancers with a strong base of technique and musicality, not for beginners. 

Intermediate/Advanced: a 3-day intensive for students 16+ who have a solid grasp of intermediate/advanced to advanced tap technique, musicality, improvisation, and an appetite for more deeply embodying vernacular jazz rudiments and storytelling.

Professional: a 5-day intensive for students 18+ who are budding or working tap dance professionals. Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, more intimate environment. The application period for this track is now closed.

How do I know what level to register for?

Please refer to the track descriptions to decide what level is correct for you. This intensive is for dancers 13+. For specific questions, please email info@dorrancedance.com.

Where will the classes be held?

All classes for the Beginner/Intermediate and Intermediate/Advanced tracks will be held in studios at The 92NY (Buttenweiser Hall, Warburg, or NLL04/05). Some classes for the Professional track will be held at Rhythmic Arts Center NYC (16 minutes walk from 92NY). Please refer to the schedule for class locations.

How do I register?

Please register online via 92NY website.

How much does the intensive cost?

Each track is $385, inclusive of a $35 processing fee.

For the professional track, a $35 nonrefundable application fee is required to complete your submission. This fee is applied towards the cost of the intensive upon acceptance.

Are there single day or class options?

Single-day registration is available for the Beginner/Intermediate and Intermediate/Advanced on Saturday and Sunday ONLY. Tuition for single day is $150 and registration is only available on-site, day-of. Single class options are not available at this time.

Will lunch be provided?

No, please be prepared to bring your own lunch. 

What is your recording policy?

Please note that the sharing or posting of any company repertory learned will not be permitted. Recording for personal practice only may be permitted in classes at the discretion of the instructor. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this policy.
