Dorrance Dance with Toshi Reagon and BIGLovely, featuring Derick K Grant and Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards, brings together today’s best tap artists, musicians, choreographers Michelle Dorrance, Derick K. Grant, Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards and acclaimed composer/musician Toshi Reagon in an innovative evening of rhythm, original live music, explosive energy, and raw emotion. The Blues Project is a creative collaboration that explores the relationship between music, sound, and movement. Dorrance noted that “on top of loving [Reagon’s] music since I was 18 years old, I wanted to work with her because she wields music the way I want to wield tap dance—by manifesting the spirit of the great American traditions. I see Derick K. Grant and Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards in a very similar light.”

“Performed live by composer Toshi Reagon (on acoustic guitar and honey- or husky-sweet lead vocals) and her excellent band, this compilation of original blues makes loving reference to its musical past: It’s a little bit country, a little bit rock ’n’ roll, yes, but also very funky and wonderfully kick-ass. This is the hair of the dog I’d like to listen to the next time I’m feeling, well, a little blue. ... Co choreographed by Dorrance, Derick K. Grant, and Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards (in collaboration with the ensemble), an exciting aspect of this pleasure-filled work is the group choreography, the simple but effective use of patterning.” – Janine Parker, The Boston Globe
