Announcing the Dorrance Dance Get Floored Campaign!
Dear friends, family, tap family, and supporters of tap dance:
When you last saw Dorrance Dance, I hope you connected with our passion and energy, though you may not have thought twice about the floor we were dancing on. But I’ll let you in on a secret: tap shoes and talent are only half the equation; the instrument underneath our feet—our floor—is the other essential element to our success.
We think about our floor all the time. Hardwood floors have the richest, brightest tones; seamless floors allow us to slide across the stage unhindered; and sprung floors are the safest for our dancers’ bodies. And tap floors aren’t the sort of thing you buy off the shelf—they are rare, and always custom-built.
Our floor is important because we’re among the only dance artists who have to tour with our own flooring, and build our stage in every venue – literally “B.Y.O.Stage.” It’s exhausting! In 2016, Dorrance Dance will tour for more than 25 weeks, and we need floors made just for tap dance and this type of ongoing travel.
Two floors—a total of 224 floor panels—will realize our dancing and touring dreams, and we’re launching the Dorrance Dance Get Floored Campaign to buy them. Our goal is to raise $40,000 by April 2016, when we plan to debut a floor of our own at The Joyce Theater in New York. Each floor panel costs $175 to commission and build, and we’re counting on your help.
I hope that you will be able to support our Dorrance Dance Get Floored Campaign and consider underwriting one, two or ten panels with your tax-deductible gift of $175, $350 or $1,750.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you. I can’t wait to dance on our floors for the first time, and share that extraordinary experience with you!
